Carl R. Rogers on Person-Centered Care
In 1981 Charles Garfield and I co-chaired a conference honoring Carl R. Rogers and his contributions to health care. Yes, in 1981, the person-centered model advanced by Carl was already taking hold in health care. Carl’s son, David Rogers, then President of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, along with many leaders influenced by Carl and his thinking. spoke to this theme. Carl’s talk, New World/New Person: Our Relationship to That Person, offered an inspiring and prescient vision for whole person person-centered care and for our inner capacities for healing and growth. Enjoy!
